Yamaha DZR12-D 12-Inch Powered Loudspeaker with Dante is the DZR12 with Dante networking on board, so it takes its feed over the same Ethernet run as a Dante-equipped console instead of a long analogue snake. It keeps the 2000 W Class-D module, 139 dB SPL and 96 kHz DSP of the standard model in the same black plywood cabinet. This is the box for installs, churches and touring racks already living on a Dante network.
Dante lets the speaker sit on a network with the console and take audio digitally, which suits an install where the amp rack is a long way from the stage. The analogue side is still there: two combo inputs accept line level up to +24 dBu at 20 kOhm, and two XLR outputs pass signal on, with channel one as a fixed through and channel two switchable between through and DSP out.
The 12-inch cone runs a 3-inch voice coil on a neodymium magnet for a light box with controlled bass. Above the 1.8 kHz crossover a 1-inch throat compression driver with a 2-inch voice coil and titanium diaphragm covers the top through a 90 by 60 degree horn that rotates for vertical mounting.
The amplifier is rated 2000 W, split 1000 W per section, with 950 W continuous divided 850 W to the woofer and 100 W to the top. Maximum output is 139 dB SPL at one metre, which is more than most rooms a 12-inch box will be asked to fill.
Converters and processing run at 96 kHz, and the FIR-X linear-phase crossover keeps the two drivers time-aligned through the handover. The result is a vocal that stays coherent as it crosses from the cone to the horn.
Two 35 mm pole sockets offer level or 7 degrees down, twelve M10 rigging points cover flying, optional UB-DZR12H and UB-DZR12V U-brackets handle walls and ceilings, and the cabinet sits at a symmetrical 50 degree angle as a floor monitor.
The plywood enclosure has a durable polyurea coating in black and two die-cast aluminium side handles. A V-Lock IEC inlet, variable-speed fan cooling and a draw of 45 W idle and 150 W at one-eighth power round it out. The box is 450 mm wide, 394 mm deep and 21.4 kg, and an SPCVR-DZR12 cover is available.
