Yamaha P-143 88-Key Digital Piano - Black is the entry point to a real 88-key weighted action for the student or the returning player who wants piano practice without a piano-sized footprint. Graded Hammer Compact action, 88 keys, 11.1 kg

The GHC action is heavier in the bass and lighter in the treble, so the technique you build here carries over to an acoustic. Touch sensitivity has Hard, Medium, Soft and Fixed settings. The body is 318 mm deep (320 mm with the music rest) and 1,326 mm wide on the optional L-100 stand, and it weighs 11.1 kg.

CFIII piano with damper resonance

The piano voice is sampled from the Yamaha CFIII concert grand, with damper resonance adding the sympathetic ring when the pedal is down. There are 10 voices and 64-note polyphony, Sound Boost for playing with others, and Duo mode splits the keyboard into two identical ranges for lessons. Transpose runs six semitones each way.

USB audio and MIDI over one cable

USB to host sends both MIDI and 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo audio to a computer or tablet, so recording is a single cable and the Smart Pianist app can drive the settings. Rec'N'Share captures a performance on a phone. Tuning is adjustable from 414.8 to 466.8 Hz in roughly 0.2 Hz steps.

7 W x 2 speakers and the footswitch in the box

Two 7 W amplifiers drive the built-in speakers, enough for a bedroom or a lesson. The included accessories are the owner's manual, music rest, footswitch and the PA-150B AC adaptor (12 V, 1.5 A; the adaptor varies by area). The sustain pedal jack takes the footswitch, and the SC-KB851 soft bag is the option for carrying it.
