Yamaha SA2200 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar - Violin Sunburst

The YAMAHA SA2200 is the top of Yamaha's semi-hollow range, a set-neck archtop for players who want hollow-body warmth that still behaves on a loud stage. This one wears a Violin Sunburst finish over a laminated maple body with gold hardware and an ebony fingerboard. The reason to spend the money is the coil-tap system: push either knob and that humbucker becomes a single coil, so one guitar covers jazz comping, blues leads and chiming clean rhythm.

Semi-hollow maple body with a mahogany block

Laminated maple gives the body snap and presence, and a solid mahogany centre block underneath the bridge stops the top from howling once the gain comes up. The neck is set into the body, which is the traditional way to build this kind of guitar and gives notes long sustain. A 2-ply black pickguard finishes the look.

Two Alnico V humbuckers, four knobs, two coil taps

Both pickups are Yamaha's own Alnico V humbuckers, selected by a 3-position toggle. The control layout is front volume, rear volume, front tone and rear tone, and each pickup's push/push switch flips it to single coil. That means a fat neck sound and a bright, tapped bridge sound are both available without touching the amp.

Mahogany neck, ebony board, 22 medium jumbo frets

The one-piece mahogany neck carries an ebony fingerboard with a 350mm radius and 22 medium jumbo frets, so chords sit cleanly and bends run smooth up high. The bone nut is cut at 43mm, widening to 53.5mm at the 12th fret. Neck depth is 20.5mm at the first fret and 22.2mm at the 12th.

Gotoh tailpiece and tuners in gold

The gold hardware is Gotoh throughout: a GE101Z tailpiece and SG30 tuning machines that keep tuning stable and the strings anchored solidly. Bridge string spacing is 10.4mm, comfortable for hybrid picking and fingerstyle alike.
