The Yamaha JR2 3/4-Size Acoustic Guitar - Natural is the small steel-string for kids starting out, travellers, and anyone who wants a guitar that lives in the car or beside the couch. It brings the FG-style dreadnought down to an 845mm total length without turning it into a toy. Natural gloss finish over a spruce top.
Spruce top on a mini dreadnought body
The top is spruce, the classic choice for a steel-string that answers quickly to a light pick or a fingertip. The back and sides wear a mahogany-pattern ultra-thin film that gives the guitar its warm brown look, and the body measures 317mm across and 80 to 90mm deep, so short arms reach over it comfortably. Black body binding and a tortoise-pattern pickguard finish the front.
540mm scale with a full 43mm nut
A 540mm scale length pulls the frets closer together and drops the string tension, which is exactly what young hands and first-time players need to fret chords cleanly. The nut is still a full 43mm wide with 10mm string spacing, so everything learned here transfers straight to a full-size guitar later. The fingerboard is rosewood or walnut with a 400mm radius on a matt-finished neck, and it comes strung .012 to .053.
