Three years after the Goodtime banjo revolutionized the banjo world, customers began asking for a model with a resonator. They wanted a banjo that was as fantastic to play as the Goodtime, but one that could compete in volume and projection during jam sessions. At Deering, we pride ourselves on listening to our customers, and in 1999, the Goodtime Two banjo was born!
The Goodtime Two banjo shares many similarities with the Goodtime Openback, featuring a natural blonde maple vibe with a satin finish that offers protection and style. At the heart of the Goodtime Two is the same 3-ply violin-grade maple rim found in the original Goodtime, but when paired with the 3-ply resonator, it produces a rich, golden tone with significantly increased volume compared to its openback counterpart.
The resonator enhances the banjo’s sound by preventing it from being absorbed by your body. Instead, the hard, concave surface of the resonator reflects the sound forward, projecting it through the soundholes of the nickel-plated flange that surrounds the rim. This design ensures the Goodtime Two delivers powerful, clear sound perfect for bluegrass and other musical settings.
Weighing in at around 6 lbs—about the same as a guitar—the Goodtime Two is an excellent choice for those seeking a high-quality, affordable bluegrass banjo for travel and leisure. Its lightweight design makes it easy to carry, yet it retains the durability and playability that Deering banjos are known for.
