HSH + Dual Coil Taps = 12 Pickup Configurations

This is where the SE Special earns its name. PRS 58/15 LT "S" humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions are joined by a PRS Narrowfield DD "S" in the middle — a hum-cancelling pickup with the chime and clarity of a single-coil but none of the buzz. A 5-way blade switch lets you select all the standard combinations, while two mini-toggle coil-tap switches let you split each humbucker independently. Run the maths: that's 12 unique pickup voicings on tap, from full-fat humbucker chunk through Strat-style quack to thin, glassy single-coil cleans.

PRS Narrowfield DD "S" — The Secret Weapon

The Narrowfield is one of PRS's cleverest pickup designs. Narrower than a standard humbucker so it sits cleanly in the middle position like a single-coil, but with PRS's hum-cancelling DD construction. The result: a vintage-style chime in positions 2 and 4 that complements the humbuckers without the 60-cycle hum that single-coils suffer from. Quack alive, hum dead.
