PRS SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition Electric Guitar - Sedona Red

The PRS SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition in Sedona Red takes the SE Silver Sky, the affordable way into John Mayer's signature PRS, and finishes it in a contemporary Land Rover Defender colour with a black pickguard, the first time a Silver Sky has worn one. Everything that makes the SE such a strong player is still here: a poplar body, a maple neck with a rosewood board, three 635JM "S" single coils and a two-point steel tremolo.

Defender Details

Mayer and PRS picked four modern Defender metallics from a palette of more than 900 colours: Carpathian Grey, Petra Copper, Sedona Red and Woolstone Green. Each guitar gets a custom neck plate with the Land Rover and Defender badges, the colour name and the SE logo, and it comes in a custom PRS and Land Rover gig bag with the Defender logo.

Sedona Red

Sedona Red borrows the sandstone of Arizona's red-rock country. It is a rich, dark oxblood metallic with a copper glint in the flake, darkening almost to black around the body edges. With the black pickguard and knobs it looks moody and expensive, and it is the warmest of the four.

635JM "S" single coils

The SE's three 635JM "S" pickups are built to PRS's specification and chase the same brief as the US 635JM set: round, full cleans with a clear, sweet top end that doesn't get harsh when you dig in. They are just as happy with a touch of overdrive, and the in-between settings give you that glassy, slightly hollow quack that makes three-single-coil guitars so versatile. A volume and two tone controls keep the layout familiar.

Neck, frets and hardware

The 635JM neck carve is a comfortable, full-feeling shape on a maple neck, with an 8.5" radius rosewood fretboard that is a little flatter than the US model's for easy bends. There are 22 PRS SE medium frets, bird inlays and a synthetic bone nut, and vintage-style closed-back tuners keep the classic look. The two-point steel tremolo offers smooth, usable vibrato with good tuning stability, the headstock face stays in natural maple with the Paul Reed Smith signature and SE logo, and hardware is nickel throughout. It comes strung with PRS Classic 10-46s.
