This is a second hand guitar in great condition.
The PRS Silver Sky was designed by Paul Reed Smith and built to John Mayer's exacting specifications. This vintage-inspired guitar features a familiar shape with a striking contrasting tone in its cutaway scoop. The neck carve, scale length, and fingerboard radius were modeled after John's early-'60s instruments, while a modified PRS-style headstock and locking tuners bring it into the modern era. When connected to a tube amp, its sweet-sounding single-coil pickups produce glassy, musical tones with excellent note definition. Additional features include a bone nut, molded metal jack plate, retooled knobs, custom fret-wire, and PRS's double-action truss rod.
The Silver Sky's bolt-on neck is inspired by John Mayer's favorite vintage guitars. The fingerboard is equipped with 22 custom-sized frets, a 25.5" scale length, and a 7.25" radius. At Guitar World Australia, we understand the unique feel of classic American electric guitars, and we can confirm that PRS has perfectly captured that essence. The Silver Sky also features an inverted PRS-style headstock, modified to suit John's playing style and to ensure consistent string length behind the nut, which improves intonation. Additionally, it includes traditional vintage-style closed-back tuners with modern locking mechanisms.
Single-coil tone aficionados will appreciate the PRS Silver Sky's pickups, which blend the best characteristics of early-'60s American electric guitars: a rounded, full tone with glassy, musical highs that avoid harshness. These pickups deliver jaw-dropping chiming harmonics and, when paired with a tube amp, produce a beautiful growl with clear note definition. The pickups also boast modern enhancements like a higher signal-to-noise ratio compared to vintage models and noise-canceling in-between sounds. Their electronics are precisely valued for superior consistency across all pickups.
The Silver Sky's tremolo blends a classic design with modern features. It includes PRS's unthreaded tremolo arm with a small set screw for optimal positioning. Gen III knife-edge screws ensure reliable pitch return, and at John Mayer's request, the tremolo rests flush against the body in a neutral position, only allowing downward pitch changes. This contact with the body enhances the guitar's acoustic properties and improves the signal-to-noise ratio of its pickups.

"It’s been a dream of mine for years to design a guitar that includes some of my favorite vintage specifications but with a modern spirit and aesthetic. After two years of study and refinement, the Silver Sky is my vision of what a reboot of the electric guitar should look and feel like." – John Mayer
The PRS Silver Sky is the result of a close collaboration between Grammy Award-winning musician John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith. More than two and a half years in the making, the Silver Sky is a vintage-inspired instrument that is at once familiar but also newly PRS through and through. This model was based on Mayer and Smith’s favorite elements from 1963 and 1964 vintage instruments, resulting in an idealized version of a vintage single-coil guitar. The attention paid to every detail sets this guitar apart.
The PRS Silver Sky will start shipping on March 20, 2018. The first 500 guitars to ship to dealers and distributors worldwide from PRS Guitars’ Maryland, USA factory will include a commemorative hardshell case. The Silver Sky model will then ship in a newly-designed, premium gig bag.
