The Yamaha TRBX305 is the five-string that gets working bassists onto stage without a four-figure outlay. A mahogany body, a five-piece maple and mahogany neck, two double-coil pickups and Yamaha's active Performance EQ with five preset voices on a switch: it is a modern, low-B-ready instrument that sounds finished straight out of the box. Performance EQ: five voices on a switch

The active preamp gives you master volume, a pickup balancer and a two-band EQ, but the trick is the five-position lever switch that recalls Yamaha's Performance EQ presets. Flat, slap, pick, fingerstyle and solo settings are dialled in and ready, so you can change your sound between songs without reaching for the amp.

Mahogany body, five-piece neck

Solid mahogany gives the TRBX305 a warm, full foundation, and the bolt-on five-piece maple and mahogany neck resists twisting under the tension of five strings. The rosewood fingerboard carries 24 medium frets on a 600 mm radius, with a 43 mm nut that keeps the string spacing tight enough for fast fingerstyle.

Pickups with definition

The neck pickup uses Alnico V magnets and the bridge pickup ceramic, both in double-coil designs that stay quiet under stage lighting and deliver a clear, punchy note with real depth on the low B.

Hardware that stays put

A die-cast bridge transfers string energy into the body for sustain, and covered die-cast tuners with a straight string pull from nut to post keep the tuning stable set after set.
