ABS resin keeps the weight down compared with a grenadilla body and does not mind the humidity swings a wooden instrument hates. Pro neck angle

Yamaha has given this student model the neck angle from its professional bass clarinets, a feature unique to the 221 in the range. The mouthpiece meets the player at a more natural angle, so posture is better and a younger player does not have to crane forward to reach it. Register tone hole placement, easy assembly

The register tone hole is positioned for accurate intonation across the break, which is where bass clarinets most often go sour.
