The Yamaha APX600FM Thinline Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Flamed Maple Tobacco Brown Sunburst is the gigging thinline for singers and band players who want an acoustic that behaves on stage. At 80 to 90mm deep it hangs on a strap like an electric, and the SYSTEM65 preamp handles EQ and tuning on the guitar itself. The Tobacco Brown Sunburst finish darkens to the edges and lets the maple flame glow through the centre.

A figured maple top is unusual at this price, and the sunburst shading is chosen to make the flame move as the light hits it. The APX body around it is 384mm wide and 490mm long, with ivory and black binding, an ABS-and-abalone rosette and no pickguard, so nothing gets between you and the figure. Depth stays at 80 to 90mm, which is what keeps feedback down when the stage volume climbs.

SYSTEM65 with three-band EQ and mid sweep

Volume, bass, middle and treble sit on the preamp, plus a mid-frequency control that lets you pick which part of the midrange you are cutting or boosting rather than settling for a fixed point. The onboard tuner saves a pedal on the board, and a single line out feeds your DI, amp or mixing desk.

634mm scale and a 43mm nut

The 634mm scale drops string tension a little compared with a 650mm dreadnought, so barre chords and bends cost less effort over a long set. The rosewood fingerboard carries a 400mm radius, the nut is 43mm with 10mm string spacing, and the neck is matt-finished. It ships with .012 to .053 strings.

TM29T tuners, rosewood bridge

Die-cast chrome TM29T tuners keep it in pitch between songs, while the rosewood bridge with black ABS pins and a urea saddle transfers the string vibration to the maple top. Gloss body finish throughout.
