The Yamaha STAGEPAS 1K mkII Portable PA System is built for the solo act, duo or small band who want to carry one rig, set it up in minutes and sound like they hired an engineer. A 12-inch powered subwoofer, a ten-driver column and a five-channel digital mixer live in one black package that stands two metres tall once assembled. The point of paying for it is what you leave behind: no separate mixer, no amp rack, no speaker cables across the floor.
The bottom cabinet carries the 12-inch subwoofer and all the amplification, with 1,100 watts of dynamic power on tap. Above it, two spacers lift a slim line array of ten 1.5-inch drivers to ear height. Coverage is rated at 170 degrees horizontal by 30 degrees vertical, so the sound spreads wide across the room and stays focused on the audience rather than bouncing off the ceiling.
The mixer on the back of the sub is digital, with five channels and Yamaha's SPX reverbs on board. Reverb can be switched on and off from an optional FC5 foot switch, which matters when you are singing and playing with both hands busy. A Priority Ducker drops the music under your voice the moment you talk into the mic, then brings it back when you stop.
Backing tracks and break music stream in over Bluetooth 5.0 using A2DP with SBC and AAC codecs, so a phone on the stage is all the playback source you need. The STAGEPAS Editor app for iOS and Android gives you remote control of the mixer, which means you can walk out front, listen to what the crowd hears and fix the balance from there.
A three-position MODE switch sets the system up for SPEECH, MUSIC or CLUB use in one move, and a 1-knob EQ on the master lets you lean the whole mix brighter or warmer without reaching for a graphic. A multi-band compressor sits on the master output to keep peaks in check when the room gets loud and the band gets excited.
The complete system weighs 23 kilograms, most of it in the 20-kilogram powered sub, which has a single carry handle on top. The column weighs 1.8 kilograms and each spacer 0.6 kilograms, and the whole lot sits at 334 by 550 by 418 millimetres once broken down. A fitted cover and power cord ship with it, and Yamaha offers the DL-SP1K dolly if you would rather wheel it in than carry it. Power draw is 25 watts at idle and 85 watts at one-eighth power.
