Yamaha YCR-2310SIII Student Cornet - Silver

Yamaha YCR-2310SIII Student Cornet - Silver is the American-style cornet for a beginner who wants something that responds quickly and does not weigh them down. The medium-large bore and light build make it easy to get a note out from the first lesson, and the silver-plated finish keeps it looking sharp in the band's front row.

ML bore, 119mm bell

The bore is medium-large at 11.65mm (0.459 inch), which is the sweet spot for a learner: enough air resistance to control the pitch, not so much that a young player runs out of puff. The bell is 119mm (4-2/3 inch) in two-piece yellow brass, sized for a full, carrying sound in a brass band or concert band.

Monel valves with heavier valve caps

The three valves are Monel alloy, which stays smooth and quick with routine oiling. Yamaha fits heavier valve caps on the 2000 series, which adds a little mass to the valve block and gives the cornet a fuller sound with better projection than its weight suggests.

American style, medium weight

This is the American-style cornet, as opposed to the shepherd's crook shape of the YCR-2330, and it has a round leadpipe that helps the note speak cleanly. Build weight is medium, so it balances well in smaller hands and is comfortable through a long rehearsal.

Silver-plated, CR-11C4L mouthpiece

The whole instrument is silver-plated, which many players prefer for its feel and its brighter look under stage lights. A Yamaha CR-11C4L mouthpiece is supplied, matched to the instrument and well suited to a beginner's embouchure.
