The Yamaha YTR-3335S Advanced Student Trumpet - Silver is the step up for a player who has outgrown a beginner horn but is not ready to spend professional money. It brings a reverse leadpipe and a braced main tuning slide, both borrowed from Yamaha's upper models, and wears a silver-plated finish.
The main tuning slide is reversed, so the leadpipe runs into the slide rather than the other way round. That removes a step in the airway just past the mouthpiece and gives a freer, more open blow with a quicker response. Yamaha then added a brace across the main slide, which firms up the feel and gives the horn a more centred, solid core to its sound.
The bell is a two-piece design with a 123mm flare, and the bore is a medium-large 11.65mm. That combination is the standard for an advancing student: enough resistance to help a developing embouchure, enough room for the sound to grow as the player does. The horn is regular weight, so it feels substantial without being tiring.
Monel alloy pistons resist corrosion and keep a fast, even action with routine oiling. The silver-plated finish is harder wearing than lacquer under sweaty hands and gives the horn a slightly brighter edge that many players prefer for section work.
