Yamaha YRS-24B Soprano Recorder is the descant in C that most of us learnt on at primary school, and it is still the one teachers ask for. It is easy for a child to blow, it plays in tune with the rest of the class, and it is made of ABS resin that survives a term in a school bag.
A straight windway gives the YRS-24B just enough air resistance that a beginner can control the pitch without overblowing. Double holes on the lower two fingers mean the chromatic notes at the bottom are fingered properly rather than half-covered, so it keeps up when the class moves past the first few tunes.
The three-piece ABS resin body comes apart for cleaning and lets the player pull the head joint to tune to the group. It shrugs off being dropped, and a fingering chart is supplied so practising at home does not depend on remembering what the teacher said.
