The Yamaha YTR-4335GSII Intermediate Trumpet - Silver pairs a gold brass bell with a silver-plated finish, which is the combination a lot of section players ask for by name. It is the second-generation 4000 Series horn: a proven design with a lighter bell, revised valve hardware and tighter slide work.
The two-piece gold brass bell has a 123mm flare. Gold brass carries more copper than yellow brass, which gives the sound more warmth and weight through the middle of the horn. Yamaha made the bell lighter on the GII, so it responds faster and lets the player vary the colour of a phrase rather than getting one fixed sound.
New valve caps and finger buttons were fitted to this model for better comfort under the right hand. They also add a little mass to the valve casing, which helps the horn carry in a big room. The Monel alloy pistons keep their quick, even action with ordinary oiling and shrug off corrosion.
The 11.65mm medium-large bore is the size most advancing players end up on, with enough resistance to support a developing embouchure and enough room to open up at volume. Yamaha introduced a new slide soldering process on this generation to keep the slides accurately aligned for better intonation. The silver-plated finish wears harder than lacquer under the hands and adds a touch of brightness to the sound.
