The Yamaha CBR15 15-Inch Passive Loudspeaker is the box for bands and venues that already own a power amp and want serious low-end reach from a cabinet that can still be lifted by one person. It is a 15-inch two-way design in a black plastic enclosure, rated to 1,000 watts peak at 8 ohms. What you are paying for is a full-size main that mounts on a pole, flies from eyebolts or sits on the floor as a wedge without any fuss.
A 15-inch low-frequency driver handles the body of the mix and a dedicated high-frequency driver takes over at the 2.0 kHz crossover point. Peak power handling is 1,000 watts into a nominal 8-ohm load, so it pairs comfortably with a PX-series amp or any similar power amp. A protection circuit on the high-frequency section guards the driver when someone pushes the amp harder than they should.
The rear panel carries one speakON NL4MP socket and one quarter-inch phone jack. That means you can run a locking speakON cable from the amp for a permanent or touring rig, or grab a standard quarter-inch speaker lead for a quick pub setup. Either way the connection is passive, so there is no mains power to run to the speaker itself.
A 35-millimetre pole socket in the base drops the cabinet straight onto a speaker stand or a sub-mounted pole. For installs, there are three flying points fitted for M8 by 15-millimetre eyebolts, two on the bottom and one on the rear. Yamaha's optional BBS251, BCS251, BWS251-300 and BWS251-400 brackets cover wall and ceiling mounting when you need it fixed in place.
The cabinet is moulded plastic in black, which shrugs off the knocks a wooden box would show after a season of gigs. Two side handles make it a two-hand lift, and at 17.7 kilograms and 378 millimetres deep it fits in the back of a hatchback alongside the amp rack. It is a main speaker you can leave in the van without worrying about it.
