Yamaha DZR315 15-Inch Three-Way Powered Loudspeaker is the three-way flagship of the DZR range: a 15-inch woofer, an 8-inch mid and a compression driver, each fed from a 2000 W Class-D module and pushed to 143 dB SPL. It is a front-of-house main for the hire company, the church and the venue that wants a full-range box without carrying a sub for every job. Black plywood cabinet with sixteen M10 points for flying.
Splitting the range three ways keeps the 15-inch woofer on bass duty only, hands the vocal range to a dedicated 8-inch mid and leaves the top to a 1-inch throat compression driver with a 2-inch voice coil, a titanium diaphragm and a neodymium magnet. Coverage is 75 degrees horizontal by 50 vertical, which is a tight enough pattern to keep energy off the side walls of a hall.
The Class-D amplifier module is rated 2000 W dynamic, with 950 W continuous split 850 W to the woofer and 100 W to the mid and high section. Maximum output is 143 dB SPL at one metre, which is the headroom that keeps a loud band clean at the back of a 500-seat room.
Converters run at 96 kHz, and the woofer-to-mid crossover at 700 Hz uses Yamaha's FIR-X linear-phase filtering, with a passive crossover at 2.5 kHz between the mid and the compression driver. FIR filtering aligns the drivers in time through the crossover, so a snare sounds like one hit rather than two.
The enclosure is plywood with a durable polyurea coating in black, with two die-cast aluminium side handles and sixteen M10 rigging points. There is no pole socket on this model, so it is a flown or stacked front-of-house box rather than a pole-mount top. An SPCVR-DZR315 cover is available.
Mains comes in on a V-Lock IEC inlet that cannot be kicked out, with variable-speed fan cooling and a draw of 45 W idle and 150 W at one-eighth power. The cabinet is 520 mm deep and weighs 41.6 kg, so plan a two-person lift.
