Yamaha MG16 16-Channel Analogue Mixer is the 16-channel analogue desk for a band, a rehearsal studio or a hall that wants ten mic preamps, eight compressors and four aux sends without paying for effects or USB it does not need. Your own reverb and interface plug straight in, and the preamps, EQ and metal chassis match the effects-equipped MG16XU.
Eight mono channels take a mic or a line source, two more switch between a mic and a stereo pair, and two stereo line inputs complete the set. Each D-PRE preamp has +48 V phantom power and a 26 dB pad, with equivalent input noise of -128 dBu at full gain. A peak LED lights when the post-EQ signal is 3 dB below clipping.
All three bands provide 15 dB of boost or cut. The high band shelves at 10 kHz and the low band at 100 Hz, and the mono-channel mid is a peaking band that sweeps from 250 Hz to 5 kHz so you can pull the boom out of a kick or the harshness out of a snare rather than guessing at a fixed frequency.
Eight channels carry a compressor on a single knob that sets gain, threshold and ratio together. The threshold ranges from +22 dBu down to -8 dBu and the ratio from 1:1 to 4:1, with roughly 25 ms attack and 300 ms release. Set it once on the vocals and the bass and they stay level through the set.
Four aux sends give you four monitor mixes or a split between wedges and outboard. Four group buses collect drums or backing vocals onto single faders before the stereo bus, and there is a separate monitor output plus a headphone output. Channel crosstalk is rated at -78 dB and distortion at 0.03% at +14 dBu across 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
The metal chassis measures 444 mm wide by 500 mm deep, weighs 6.6 kg, and ships with the rack-mount kit. Power is 100 to 240 V at 30 W.
